Your group has been taken in a closed helicopter on a night flight and has been dropped at an unknown location. Each of you has a back-pack with a sleeping bag, enough food and survival rations for 10 days, water for two days, a watch, a compass, an axe and 10 metres of rope.
The pilot of the helicopter gave each team member an envelope before taking off in the sudden light of dawn at 06.00 am. He explained that you should all start walking towards a natural landmark on the horizon and that, at noon precisely, you should stop and open your envelopes.
It is now noon, you have reached the landmark and you have all just opened your envelopes. As you can see, they contain a number of Clue Cards - some explicit, some enigmatic - and a Map of the area in which you have been dropped.
Your task it to answer the following questions precisely:
- Where are we coming from? - (Mark helicopter landing spot on Map)
- Where are we now? - (Mark present location on Map)
- Where are we heading if we keep going as now? - (Mark present direction and likely destination on Map)
- Where do we want to be? - (Circle the planned destination/objective)
- By when do we want to be there? - (What is the deadline?)
- How will we get there in the shortest possible time? (Trace route on Map and calculate duration of journey)
Training Objectives:
- To teach the five essential steps in the planning of any project
- To demonstrate the need for co-operation, sharing and synergy in a team, especially during the planning of a project
Time:

90 minutes
