Road Names Winning teams are characterised by their ability to make winning decisions.

These decisions may be taken by a respected leader, by consultation, by majority voting or by consensus.  Whichever decision-making system is adopted, it must be CLEAR and ACCEPTABLE to all the members.

Road Names is a devilishly difficult exercise designed to train a team in how to create a decision-making system.

The task is to choose the names of six roads, three boulevards and a main square for a new bureau park for the United Nations.  120 names, ranging from Brigitte Bardot to Leonardo da Vinci, have been pre-selected.  Team members first make their own, individual selection and then the team has to reach agreement on 10.  All this in 30 minutes!

Obviously, the only way even to approach consensus is to agree on HOW to decide because everyone is convinced that their choice is the best.  Therein lies the learning (and the fun) of this exercise.
