Overview:
This course has been designed for senior managers and professionals who are looking to win new business for their company or firm. Typically individuals at this level will be highly experienced technical practitioners but will have little or no formal training in the business development process.
This course is designed to bridge that gap and provide them with the skills, tools and techniques to champion firm-wide growth and the confidence and support to create and implement a business development plan.
Entry Requirements:
Delegates must have an interest in business development and have had active participation in the preparation or negotiation of a response to an Invitation to Tender or (similar) with a value of significance to their firm.
ASET Level 5 Diploma
Upon completion of this course to a satisfactory standard, successful delegates will be eligible for a certificate in Professional Practice New Business Development. The certificate is accredited to a national standard by ASET and approved by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills. The certificate demonstrates commitment to training and development both by the employer and the employee.
Course Overview
The course consists of six, one-day modules held at monthly intervals. Between modules, delegates are expected to use the tools and techniques discussed on the course and be prepared to share experiences and working documents with other delegates during the review sessions which form the first session of each days programme. They will also have the opportunity of discussing day to day issues with their assigned course tutor who will be available by email for ongoing mentoring and support.

Course Objectives
By the end of the course, delegates should be able to take charge of and drive through a business development programme within their firm and introduce creative ideas for innovative business development initiatives.
Specifically, graduates of the course will be able to demonstrate these competencies:
- Be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the sales process and how to apply it in practice
- Will be fully familiar with the concepts of Features / Benefits, demonstrating Value and the importance and meaning of strategy within the business development context
- How to manage a proposal for start to finish
- The activities necessary both before during and after a proposal is prepared and submitted
- How to prepare for and maximize the outcome of a negotiation especially on price and or service level
- How to present a proposal and “sell” an idea to an audience
- How to set objectives and lead teams in challenging projects especially when developing proposals
- How and where to network effectively to introduce business to the practice
- How to prepare a business development strategy and create a workable business development plan
Course Schedule
Delegates are required to attend 6 training days, usually during a 6 month or longer period.
Our course schedule is designed to be as flexible as possible. We aim to provide each module twice every month, allowing delegates to choose a day convenient to them (subject to availability). Where demand exceeds availability we will endeavor to arrange further courses where possible.
