In this exciting game, the team is given a brief explaining that they have been dropped by helicopter on a supertanker. They are told that they have to make a series of decisions which will get them safely to port. 2. Competetitive Team Building Game - "Viking Attack!"

Viking Attack! is one of our most popular team building games because it simulates the need for collaborative working and effective team work in a highly competetive race against the clock. As well as bringing the team together to solve a complex puzzle, it will teach them valuable lessons in leadership, cooperation, planning and of course how to work more effectively as a team. 3. Team Building Game - "The Hollow Square"
TThe Hollow Square is a game can that be used to help teams understand the impact of communication between those who develop plans and those who have to implement them. The group is divided into a Planning Team and an Operations Team.  The Planning Team have 20 minutes to prepare a briefing that will enable the Operations Team to carry out a specific task – the building of a hollow square.

The Operations Team then have to carry out the task working from the briefing they have received without any further input from Planning. 

At the end of a time limit both teams review the performance against the task, quality of briefings, assignments and instructions plus the wider implications for their work situation.

Typically, the game promotes an active discussion about behaviours, assumptions made by both teams, quality of delegation and actions to improve communication. Back to top

A light-hearted team building game with a serious point.  This is a thought provoking team building exercise that works well in a negotiation course, as an icebreaker, a team work exercise or an evening activity. The Pricing Dilemma is a simulation designed to highlight and reinforce negotiation and decision making skills. The story is based on the classic Game Theory conjecture The Prisoners' Dilemma but changed to reflect a commercial predicament. To ensure that everyone has a chance to input to the decision making, the exercise is best run with two teams of between three and six players. The exercise takes between 30 and 90 minutes depending on how much pressure you want to put on the decision making process; but expect the learning, especially about mutual trust and negotiation in good faith to go on for weeks or months. Making decisions with incomplete information? Welcome to Murphy's world. The team's task is to provide management with vital sales figures. Although each member has some information, the Sales Manager has disappeared with the key data. He's away on a business trip and it's a race against the clock to locate him and get him to send over the missing information. In order to find him and calculate the sales figures the team will need to work together to solve the mystery and come up with the right answer. Can your team manage their way out of a difficult situation with limited resources and minimal information? This highly enjoyable team building activity helps groups learn how to process complex information and choose logically between a number of alternatives. The team has been dropped by sea plane on on a remote lake. Their task, using just the information supplied to them, is to reach any one of the five lakes on an adjacent island so as to be picked up again by the plane. 7. Icebreaker - team building game - "Westrek"
This exciting simulation demonstrates the need for co-operation, sharing and synergy in a team; especially when planning a project. Your team has been taken in a closed helicopter on a night flight and has been dropped at an unknown location. Each has a back-pack with a sleeping bag, enough food and survival rations for 10 days, water for two days, a watch, a compass, an axe and 10 metres of rope. Using just the information in their packs and their own common sense they have to find out ehre they are , where they are going to and how best to get there. 8. Building consensus team building game - "Road Names"
Is your team focused, assertive or just downright pushy? This powerful exercise is used to show participants how to influence their colleagues most effectively to reach their objectives.Road Names is a tricky simulation designed to prompt teams to think about how they make decisons and how they could get better at it. Their task is to choose the names of six roads, three boulevards and a main square for a new bureau park for the United Nations. 120 names, ranging from Brigitte Bardot to Leonardo da Vinci, have been pre-selected. Team members first make their own, individual selection and then the team has to reach agreement on 10. All this in 30 minutes! Expect plenty of argumnet, banter and even the occassional row as memebers fight their corner and attpmt to influence their colleagues. Allow an hour with bebrief.Back to top

9. Tough decisions - team building game - "Forest Fire"
Team members can practice consensus-seeking and study the impact of attitudes and values in team decision-making.

Your team will take the role of a helicopter rescue team, responsible for organising air / land rescues.A forest fire of unprecedented violence has broken out. Using the one small rescue helicopter at their disposal, the team's task is to evacuate the people in the last remaining chalet

However, the helicopter can only rescue one person at a time and it is unlikely that all 10 volunteers can be rescued.  In fact, the pilot says he may only be able to get three or four people safely evacuated before the fire reaches the chalet. Your team must decide the sequence in which the people in the chalet should be rescued.   This is an agonizing decision since only those near the top of the list will stand a realistic chance of being rescued. Allow 90 minutes and expect fireworks as teams debate the competing merits whilst making life and death decisions. Back to top

10. Professional team building game - "Seven Wonders"

Your team will have to set aside personal preference and emotion and reach an agreement based on mutual respect and objective facts. It's been shown that it is relatively difficult to get too emotionally involved when one is asked to select items for survival on the moon or in a shipwrecked raft. But here it's different.

The team's task is first, working as individuals,to make a deeply personal prioritized choice based on the facts they are given. That's the easy part. Next, they must join the rest of the team have just 30 minutes to reach a team consensus. Expect passions to run high as emotion obscures otherwise normally calm and rational decison makers. Allow for an hour including private preperation time and debrief afterwards.
